2005 Western District Ladies' Fall Retreat

A Perfect Fall Getaway

The Ladies of the Western District met for their Fall Retreat in the beautiful setting at Shepherd’s Hill at the Cross Roads near St. John, North Dakota. We met on the weekend of October 14-16 to hear guest speakers, Priscilla (Perky) Backstrom and Carol Backstrom, sisters-in-laws and long time friends, from Maddock, North Dakota. They chose to speak on “Choices”. Along with their speaking they also performed a puppet show, and led us in chorus singing, with the help of Kathy Daely. Oh, to hear the voices of 36 ladies singing praises to the Lord is awesome!

The weather could not have been more perfect for a fall retreat, which enabled us to have a bonfire on Friday evening after the session. Roasting marshmallows to make s’mores and singing songs around the camp fire with hardly a breeze in the air, but just enough to get smoke in the eyes once in awhile.

Saturday was a very enjoyable day. We had another session with Perky and Carol continuing with their topic “Choices”. Other events in the day were a Silent Auction with many wonderful items to bid on during our free time. The proceeds from the action were donated to the Women’s Ministries Projects. During free time we could do whatever we wished: reading, card stamping, walks or a nap. Before the evening meal we had a scavenger hunt. Have you ever seen about 25-30 women running around a large camp grounds looking for clues!? We had a ball and the winners got to go first for supper! We ended the day with another session and then had prayer, praise and popcorn and then to bed (for those who wanted to sleep anyway!).

Sunday began with a brunch and followed with a praise and worship time. Then it was time to say good bye and head on home.

We had a wonderful time at Shepherd’s Hill at the Cross Roads. The service and meals were wonderful and the setting was perfect. It was very relaxing to be in a place that God created so beautiful for one to enjoy.

2004 Western District Women's Retreat

Crossroads Range Retreat October 15-18, 2004 for Western District Women
Thoughts from the retreat:

The Western District retreat was held October 15-18 in the log cabin chapel of Cross Roads Range Bible Camp, located in north central North Dakota. Women representing 10 congregations enjoyed sharing their "Glory Stories", making cards, taking a horse-drawn wagon ride, and hearing the testimony and counsel of Mary Beth Lunde, former missionary to Africa. The theme "Walking In the Light" guided her thoughts which centered around II Corinthians 4:6, “God made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”

A silent auction of a wide variety of crafts and goodies gave a generous $640 boost to the treasury. Each delegation was able to share the triumphs and trials of their women's group. The weekend was truly a time of respite and retreat: a time to worship, recharge and relate to our sisters in the Lord. Thank you, Linda Patch for planning such a wonderful weekend
